Public Comment: Addressing Outside Influence and Misuse of District Resources
Good evening, members of the RUSD school board.
I am here to express serious concerns about the infiltration of professional protestors from outside our district who seem to be actively working to drown out the voices of parents, residents, and stakeholders who have a legitimate, vested interest in our schools. These paid protestors are not here to support our community or improve educational outcomes; their purpose appears to be intimidation, disruption, and the promotion of divisive ideologies that are damaging to the educational environment. This board has no obligation to give such individuals a platform, especially when their presence undermines the voices of parents, caregivers, and community members who have a right to be heard.
Equally troubling is the apparent use of taxpayer dollars to support organizations that facilitate these disruptions. By inviting groups with ties to outside interests, often driven by a failed ideology, the district risks alienating the very people it serves—our families. The data is clear: the radical social experiments being promoted in some circles harm both individual students and the broader school community. Studies from Europe have shown that encouraging children to transition or participate in ideologies disconnected from sound educational practices correlates with increased rates of anxiety, depression, and tragically, suicide. These practices groom vulnerable children instead of equipping them with the tools they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Moreover, the overall learning environment suffers when a focus on ideological agendas takes precedence over education. Test scores decline, classroom safety erodes, and the community fractures. This is not a hypothetical scenario—other districts and countries that have embraced these approaches have seen measurable declines in student outcomes and well-being. We cannot afford to let RUSD become another example of what happens when the focus shifts away from education and toward activism.
This board has a responsibility to ensure that our schools remain a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous environment. That means prioritizing education over ideology and ensuring that taxpayer funds are used to benefit students, not to support outside agitators or organizations with destructive agendas. Parents, caregivers, and residents must be the primary voices in these discussions, and their ability to advocate for their children should not be silenced or overshadowed by professional protestors who have no stake in our district’s success.
Thank you.
