🏛️ A City Shuttered: Where is the Leadership?
Riverside was built on strength and community, yet today we see our City leadership choosing to run and hide rather than stand firm. By shutting down in response to staged Anti-ICE protests, our officials aren’t “playing it safe”—they are proving to the world that Riverside lacks the strong leadership required to maintain a functioning society.
The Pattern of Silence
This isn’t the first time. It seems our City hasn’t matured since they shut down speech years ago simply because they feared an opposing ideology. We are effectively teaching the public that if you are the “loudest voice” in the room, common sense will take a backseat to your demands.
The Double Standard
It raises a troubling question about the consistency of our “Leaders”:
- If opposition voices threatened a riot or protest at a State of the City campaign event, would they cancel that, too?
- Or do they only fold when the ideology of the protesters aligns with their own political convenience?
Defending the Republic
A Constitutional Republic depends on the rule of law and the courage of its representatives. By yielding to the threat of disruption, our City Leaders are showing they may oppose the very form of government they were elected to serve.
We deserve leaders who stand their ground, not those who lock the doors when things get difficult.

This is an interesting point. I look to my leadership at the non-partisan city level to be objective without bias and consistent. I would imagine that as future events unfold that they will try to gage their response on public opinion as opposed to what is objectively unbiased and consistent. This comes from my perspective even with my alignment with left leaning opinions and causes. I believe if we are going to bridge the growing gap between left and right wings we have to seek truth and fairness regardless how that shakes out. I was in favor of today’s peaceful protest and opposed to the government shutting down early seemingly in support of it.
